6th Grade Reading and Literature
We spend time reading from the Journeys series as well as reading longer chapter books (both novels and nonfiction works). I also strive to provide independent reading time in the classroom.
We are reading a whole class nonfiction text called Freedom Walkers. This book tells the story of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and about many of the early leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. We will spend about 2-3 weeks on this book. We should be finishing up the book on Friday, February 15 and doing a project assessment over the book during the week of February 19-22.
We are working to set our 3rd quarter AR goals. Students should be reading 30 minutes daily to work toward their 3rd quarter AR goals and should be about 3/4 to their points goal for the quarter.
